Margareta Dahlström is Professor in Human Geography at the Department of Geography, Media and Communication, Karlstad University, Sweden. She holds a post as Professor in Innovation and Regional Development that is co-funded by Karlstad University and the regional authority Region Värmland. She is the Director of Centre for Research on Region Building, a multidisciplinary research centre at Karlstad University. The centre focuses on research, research training through a research school currently enrolling 11 PhD students, and research communication. Her research profile is characterised by the intersection of economic geography and planning – particularly issues in relation to regional development. Over the last 20 years her research has been related to issues of knowledge dynamics and innovation, mainly in relation to regional innovation systems. She is currently combining these topics within the agenda of a transition to a sustainable bio economy. Her research also includes development of methods for multidisciplinary research, including transdisciplinary research involving non-academic partners such as authorities, firms and civil society. Much of her studies include case studies and comparative international research. In addition to academic publishing, she takes pride in communicating research outside Academia.
