Dr. Christoph Leitl
Since 2000 Christoph Leitl has been the president of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber in Vienna. Born and raised in Linz, he has been the founding chairman of the European Youth (Europajugend) in Linz in 1966. In the studies of Economic and Social Sciences at the Johannes Kepler University Linz he was awarded his Ph.D. in 1973.
From 1990 to 2000 Christoph Leitl was member of the government of the Federal State of Upper Austria where his agendas were Economy, Finance and European Affairs and from 1995 to 2000 he was deputy governor and treasurer of the Federal State of Upper Austria as well as member of the Committee of the Regions (CoR), SME Division.
From 2001 to 2005 Christoph Leitl was president of EUROCHAMBRES (Association of European Chambers of Commerce and Industry) and from 2005 to 2009 president of the European SME Union. Since 2006 Christoph Leitl is honorary president of EUROCHAMBRES and chairman of the Global Chamber Platform.
In addition Christoph Leitl is visiting professor at the Vienna University of Economics & Business Administration (International Trade Department) and held guest lectures at renowned universities like Princeton University, Fudan University – Shanghai, University of Cape Town, T.C. Istanbul Commerce University and Marmara University, MIT - Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University.
Furthermore Christoph Leitl is president of the Austrian Institute of Economic Research (WIFO) and president of OIER (Organisation for International Economic Relations). He is member of the foundation board of the Julius Raab Foundation and co-president of the AlpEuregio.BusinessClub as well as member of the honorary board of the Energy Globe Foundation and member of the foundation committee of the foundation PRO ORIENTE.
Christoph Leitl is honoured with the European Citizen´s Prize of European Parliament and the Mérite Européen in Gold.
